The Medical Device Inspection Laboratory was established in 2014
Verlab Ltd. has built its expertise through extensive work in the healthcare sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Center for Research and Innovation was established within the company in 2020
Verlab Research Institute for Biomedical Engineering, Medical Devices and Artificial Intelligence was established in 2022.
Recognising the structural gap
The idea behind Verlab Institute emerged from practical experience within regulated and technology-driven environments. It became increasingly clear that innovation alone does not strengthen systems.
What was missing was structure — scientific, regulatory, and institutional.
Research existed. Technology existed. Talent existed. System readiness did not.
The need for an independent scientific structure began to take shape.
Establishing independence
Verlab Institute was formally established in 2022 as the first independent scientific research institute in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This was not an administrative expansion of existing institutions. It was a deliberate act of building an autonomous research entity capable of operating with scientific rigor, strategic independence, and international alignment.
European Integration
In 2023, Verlab Institute expanded its role within European research and innovation frameworks.
Participation in Erasmus+, EIT initiatives, and European digital programmes further strengthened its international integration.
Infrastructure and System-Level Engagement
The Institute deepened its engagement in digital transformation and advanced computing, contributing to national high-performance computing initiatives and structured science-to-business programmes.
Articulating the institutional model
The Institute formally articulated its methodological framework: Learn. Try. Do.
Research builds clarity.
Piloting builds evidence.
Implementation builds credibility.
The Institute led the first COST Action with Bosnia and Herzegovina as the primary proposer — marking a significant milestone in national scientific representation.
Institutional Maturity and Responsible Innovation
As technological acceleration continues — particularly in artificial intelligence and digital systems — the Institute’s role becomes more defined.
