Yesterday, the inaugural “EIT Health Morning Talks” was held at the premises of the ASA Institute in Sarajevo, jointly organized by the ASA Institute and the Verlab Institute, with support from EIT Health.
This event brought together experts in healthcare, technology, and innovation to foster discussions on the future of digital transformation in the healthcare sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The event commenced with opening remarks by Dr. Daria Ler from the ASA Institute and Zsolt Bubori from EIT Health InnoStars, who underscored the importance of integrating digital technologies to enhance healthcare services.
“This event represents a significant step towards establishing a stronger innovation ecosystem in healthcare within our country. Digital transformation is not merely a technological shift but an opportunity to improve the efficiency and quality of healthcare services,” emphasized Dr. Ler, Director of the ASA Institute.
Data lies at the heart of digital transformation in healthcare, enabling more precise, personalized, and efficient healthcare delivery. By leveraging advanced analytics tools, artificial intelligence (AI), and technologies such as big data analytics, the healthcare sector can enhance service quality, reduce costs, and improve patient outcomes. Attendees gained insights into best practices across Europe through a presentation delivered by Timo Alalääkkölä from Finland. Additionally, Enes Hatibović (ASA Hospital), Muris Čeljo (Kodeks), and Kemal Kačapor (Faculty of Economics, University of Sarajevo) highlighted the importance of collaboration between academic and business sectors in implementing digital innovations.
The significance of digital identity in healthcare transformation was elaborated by Prof. Dr. Dimitrios Fotiadis from Greece, followed by a panel discussion featuring Anes Talović (Eurofarm) and Almir Badnjević (IDDEEA). The panel reiterated that data is the cornerstone of advancing the healthcare sector. With the proper use of technology and data, healthcare systems can be significantly improved, offering better services to the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Inclusion in the European innovation healthcare space greatly depends on the community we build within our country. It is essential to continuously support preparations for new initiatives and projects and provide assistance to health, med, and biotech startups. Simultaneously, strengthening collaboration among the healthcare sector, industry, and research institutions is crucial. All of this can be achieved through networks such as EIT Health, and we look forward with great enthusiasm to future events of this community in the years to come,” concluded Dr. Lejla Gurbeta Pokvić, Director of the Verlab Institute.
Zsolt Bubori from EIT Health InnoStars stated: “EIT Health aims to foster innovation and business collaboration between Bosnia and Herzegovina and EU countries. We already have certain resources and tools to achieve this strategic objective, such as today’s Morning Health Talks. This structured discussion program for key opinion leaders and executives, developed over the past five years in 11 countries, has been held today for the first time in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Furthermore, EIT Health has signed agreements with the Verlab Institute and the ASA Institute, as they are exemplary representatives and accelerators of the Bosnian healthcare industry. EIT Health remains open to new partnerships.”
